NSSE and FSSE: National and Faculty Student Engagement Surveys

The National Survey of Student Engagement (NSSE) measures students’ engagement in their university education through questions that explore students' behaviors and experiences. The survey is administered at SF State every three years, and the results are compared with the results at other CSU campuses and at other institutions in the same Carnegie Class.  The Faculty Survey of Student Engagement (FSSE) measures faculty perception of students’ engagement in their university education based on faculty experiences teaching undergraduates.  Results from the 2014 administration of the surveys are posted below.  For results and analyses of earlier surveys, please contact SF State's Office of Academic Institutional Research.

2014 NSSE Response Rates by Class Level:  11% of Freshmen (640 out of 5,964) and 16% of Seniors (1,555 out of 9,555)

2014 FSSE Response Rates:  30% of Faculty (647 out of 2,163)
